looks good getting up to highway 18. at 5:08 let's go to steve. >> another big fog bank out there and it's giving us also some drizzle so we have to deal with that. today will be very similar to what we had over the weekend. breezy to windy at times, already gusts to 30. about the same tomorrow, by the end of the week looks like that fog will be getting a little shallower, it does look warmer 80s and 90s coming back for us in the sacramento san joaquin valley. we keep dealing with a low coming in from the pacific west, that ramps up the fog. then high pressure in the middle of country tries to head back west but it's been trying to do that for the last two months. we have some fog in the coast, but it has no problem getting back out. everybody coast and inland 80 degrees. west south wind or a west wind when it's 27 at travis and southwest at vacaville. any time they get a south wind in this kind of a pattern that's a cool breeze. once the low kicks out, temperatures will gradually start to come up. it's a gradual the warm warm up. breezy to windy and that will be out of the west. drizzl

with happiness. one was much smaller states than we ended up with. he believed a state was too big, it would end up containing people from too diverse groups, and would eventually crumble. he knew of what he was speaking because his state, virginia at the point in time included what is now virginia, kentucky and west virginia, and was not a happy state and in fact it leader broke up. kentucky was seated right around this time. west virginia not until the civil war. but the other thing jefferson was talking about was who controls the senate. all those maritime states the talked about, the darker green states on the map have rivers and waterways that flow to the atlantic. west of the appellation the waterways flow unless they go directly into the gulf, they ultimately find their way to the mississippi river. and at that point in time, the mississippi river was controlled by spain in what is now tennessee since it had not yet been a state they proclaim themselves a state without congress' approval, franklin, and they talked about proclaiming themselves a republic called franklin and opening negotia

't happen. >> no. and when the markets do open, it will be a big indication of what happened. the dow jones is down to 86 points, to 12,595. that's come down from the earlier drop of 100 points right at the sound of the opening bell. overnight all of the major asian markets closed down. again, they will reopen again. they are definitely looking towards washington, d.c. to see what happened. the biggest loser, the shanghai composite. australia lost 1.5%. japan finished up. the german market has wandered back into positive territory, a few times within the last few hours. the french and british markets remain down from the closing. now, related in all of this cody traders are taking action. crude oil prices fell below $99 but are now offer -- hovering above that point. some credit agencies are warning that they will drop the u.s. rating from aaa to aa in the next couple of days if the uncertainty continues. one commodity benefiting is gold, gold prices are up $16 so far this morning. record prices there. just about 1600 -- $1,618 an ounce. coming up, we'll have more on whether the debt talks

. you can see how big this complex is moving southeast at 20 miles per hour. and then there is another area that's just down to the south. it's around charles county, around king george county and it's moving toward areas like montrose and st. george island. the impact with this, frequent lightning, damaging winds, and definitely some downpours with this. so the atmosphere, that very humid air, is getting wrung out. flash flood warnings up for areas of northeastern montgomery county, for northern prince george's and anne arundel county. howard county, too, in baltimore. and to the south, for king george and for stafford county. and this goes up until about 6:30 or 7:00 or so. so remember, turn around, don't drown. we're seeing some awfully high rainfall rates out of these thunderstorms coming through. but it's definitely cooling us down. unofficially, up to the 91. now we're seeing temperatures in the 80s. and overnight, the first time they have dropped this low since early wednesday morning. i'll have more in a little bit. >> all right. thank you, veronica. >>> as norway mourns those

is it shows that the united states system is not set up to do big things. when a crisis like this comes up they cannot do a deal that would show stability to the world. >> ronald reagan and tip o'neal made big deals. in the 1990s, bill clinton and the republican congress made big deals. and mika, it's not over yet, but it has gotten to the point already that this is damaging the reputation of the united states the longer it goes, and i think we're talking about it damaging our reputation more every day that the crisis goes on. >> i think both sides would agree with that. after a weekend of meetings resulting in yet another impasse, president obama is canceling two fundraisers today to continue negotiations. senate majority leader harry reid said the talks broke down last night because of the republicans insistence on a short-term deal, and their plan would cut $2.7 trillion over the next ten years. officials say it raises the debt ceiling but no tax increases. and he salaid out his latest solution. >> there will be a two-stage possible. it's not physically possible to do this in one step.
